Project Type: Landfill Gas Capture  |  Location: Massachusetts  |  Standard: Verra

The Crapo Hill landfill is located in Dartmouth, Massachusetts and is under the ownership and operation of the Greater New Bedford Regional Refuse Management District (the District). With a permitted area of 69.8 acres within a 152-acre parcel of land, the landfill operates under the approval of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP). Since its inception in 1995, the landfill has been accepting municipal solid waste and construction and demolition debris.

This project reduces greenhouse gas emissions by capturing and destroying landfill methane, preventing it from leaking into the atmosphere. Methane destruction is also used to produce renewable electricity. By harnessing the potential of various organic waste materials such as agricultural waste, landfill gas, and sewage sludge, this project converts the waste sources into biogas that is used to generate renewable electricity, diversifying the energy mix and diminishing reliance on fossil fuels.
